The Independence Day Award (Canada) Gold Medal
Swadhinata Padak স্বাধীনতা পদক (কানাডা)is the highest form of recognition that can be granted by the National Bangladeshi-Canadian Council. It recognizes individuals of Bangladeshi and non-Bangladeshi descent, as well as institutions and organizations, for their outstanding national or international contribution towards the development of the Bangladeshi Canadian community.

Award categories for medals are:

♦  Community Development
♦  Outstanding leadership that contributes to the growth of the community;
♦  Culture and the Arts
♦  Outstanding achievement in the field of visual arts (including film and media), performing arts      (music, dance, theatre), literary arts and heritage (museums, archives, research);
♦  Education
♦  Outstanding achievement in the field of pre-school, primary, secondary and post-secondary  education, extension services and non-traditional education programs;
♦  Sport
Outstanding achievement in sport through participatory leadership or the development of community programs.
Outstanding achievement can be measured by the nominees’ level of excellence and initiative, their  sustained body of work, peer recognition and the nominees’ broad impact inside and outside the  Bangladeshi Canadian community.

Up to three medals are presented in each category during the National Convention of Bangladeshi-Canadians.


 
Who is Eligible for the পদক Medal?

All Canadians – individuals, groups or organizations – are eligible to be nominated to receive the Independence Day Award (Canada) Swadhinata Padak. Posthumous nominations are not accepted except where the nominee dies after being recommended by the jury panel.

In addition, the NBCC Board of Directors may give special recognition to individuals in the public sector for outstanding contribution to the Bangladeshi Canadian community.
Who Can Nominate Someone?
Any two individuals or any organization can nominate an individual or an organization for the Independence Day Award (Canada) Swadhinata Padak. Click here to download nomination form(Bangla or English).
How Can I Nominate Someone?
Simply fill out the Independence Day Award (Canada) Swadhinata Padak Nomination Form (Bangla or English) and email to the NBCC National Office E-mail: admin@nbcac.org or nbaca2003@gmail.com
How Are Recipients Chosen?
Recipients are chosen by the NBCC Board of Directors upon recommendation from juries appointed by the Board. All nominations remain confidential. Recipients are announced three weeks prior to the commencement of the National Convention or other NBCC event.
Who Serves on the Juries?
As a rule, the Juries, appointed by the NBCC Board of Directors, are made up former Independence Day Award (Canada) Swadhinata Padak recipients with demonstrated expertise in the award categories.
What Do Recipients of the Award Receive?
Recipients receive a Swadhinata Padak পদক Medal and certificate from the NBCC.
When Do I Send In The Nomination Form?
A s soon as completed. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of the application from the NBCC National Office.
